King Edward I was the King of England from 1272 to 1307. He was born on June 17, 1239, in Westminster, London, England, and was the eldest son of King Henry III and Eleanor of Provence.

Edward I succeeded his father in 1272 at the age of 33 and was known for his military campaigns and his efforts to reform and strengthen the institutions of his kingdom. He waged wars against the Welsh, the Scots, and the French during his reign.

Edward I is also known for his building projects, which included the construction of the famous medieval fortress, Caernarfon Castle, in Wales and several bridges, like the Old London Bridge over the River Thames.

Edward I died on July 7, 1307, in Burgh by Sands, near Carlisle, England, on his way to another military campaign against the Scots. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, London, England, with the Latin epitaph, "Edward, the beloved king, the father of the people, lies here."
